I’m looking for a reliable person to help care for my lovely Cornflakes - ideally someone who loves horses more than just riding them.

Cornflakes is a 4.5-year-old Irish Cob, almost 160 cm tall. He hasn’t been backed yet, so for now the focus is on groundwork, lunging and simply spending time working with him. He has mostly been trained according to the Freestyle Academy system, but he is very smart and curious and loves learning new things and tricks. In the future, I would also like to train him for driving.

To keep his training consistent, I ask that you take at least one lesson per month with him with one of the Freestyle instructors.

Cornflakes is a very safe, sweet and gentle horse. He absolutely loves people, attention, scratches and cuddles. He learns very quickly but can also be a little stubborn. He is a typical left-brain introvert: not naturally very forward, sometimes opinionated and occasionally a little “in your face”. He therefore needs someone who can motivate him positively while being calm, consistent and clear about boundaries. He is absolutely not mean or unsafe – just a very sweet boy with his own opinions. 😉

He lives at a lovely stable in Zoetermeer/Stompwijk, with good facilities and is kept in a group. Part of caring for him includes mucking out the paddock where the group is kept, so I’m looking for someone 16+ who is responsible, comfortable handling horses independently and doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty.

I need someone who can come at least twice a week and also help out during holidays. If you would like to come more often, that is certainly possible.

Cornflakes will soon start his training towards being ridden, but I deliberately don’t want to promise when you would be able to ride him. His development comes first. If everything works well between us and the time is right, riding can of course become part of the arrangement later on.

While he cannot yet be ridden, I don’t ask for any additional sharer’s fee. Once he can be ridden, we can discuss what is appropriate. For me, finding someone who is reliable, keeps their commitments and genuinely cares about Cornflakes is much more important than the money.

Most of all, I’m looking for someone who enjoys caring for him, groundwork, learning together and building a real bond with him, rather than someone whose main goal is riding.
