Description
Hey there,
my name is Emily, I’m 22 years old and have spent the past several years working with young and challenging horses. Before I shifted my focus towards Western riding, I spent over a decade in the English saddle, gaining valuable experience with a wide variety of horses and riding styles.
My journey has taken me across countries, working internationally to deepen my knowledge of horse development and foundational work. In 2021, I spent several months in West Clare, Ireland, learning how to start young connemaras and irish cobs calmly and respectfully. Since 2023, I’ve returned regularly to Memphis, Tennessee, where I work part-time as a trainer, supporting a ranch operation that starts colts, works with mustangs and rehabilitates difficult horses.
When I talk about my time in the U.S., I don’t mean “breaking” in the traditional sense. I believe in “starting” and building trust, taking the time to prepare a horse thoroughly, and working with patience and clarity. Whether it's groundwork, first saddling, or those crucial first rides, I always aim for a relaxed, horse-centered approach tailored to each individual. I’ve worked in colt starting clinics, collaborated closely with breeders, and have been responsible for conditioning and presenting endurance horses across the Southern states.
Through that, I’ve learned how to build durable, mentally stable horses without stress or shortcuts. I’m not interested in competitive pressure. I value long-term progress, clarity, and a safe, well-rounded horse above anything else. My work has gradually shifted from sport performance to foundational development, and I now specialize in helping young horses grow into confident partners.
Since 2023, I’ve been working at a training stable in Germany alongside my studies, where I had the opportunity to work on my own project horses – taking them from green to under-saddle with care and consistency. Now that I’ve relocated to The Hague, I’m looking for opportunities to support local horse owners who could use a hand 1–3 days a week. I’m happy to assist with groundwork, colt starting, environmental desensitization (trail work, new surroundings), or simply developing a more solid partnership with your horse.
I work with both English and Western horses, and I adapt my methods to the horse’s temperament and the owner's goals. If one path doesn’t work, I find another, but always without force or frustration. For me, groundwork, time in nature, and individual pacing aren’t optional, they’re essential.
I’d love to tell you more about how I work and hear about your horse!
I’m currently completing my Master's in the Netherlands and learning Dutch – but for now, communication works best in English or German. I’m based in The Hague and would be happy to meet you and your horse locally.
Feel free to contact me if you’re looking for support or simply want to give your horse a calm, experienced hand in their development. Also, check out my pictures to get a first impression of my work.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
